Launching a coin

4 min read✓

Launching in the window, reserving a launch when it's closed, the launch fee, dev buys and creator fees.

2hour.fun opens soon. These guides explain how everything works once we're open.

Anyone can create a coin on 2hour.fun, on Robinhood Chain or Solana, during the daily 2-hour launch window. Once we're open, you can reserve a launch for the next window while it's closed.

Reserve while the window is closed (optional), then finalise once it opens and your coin goes live.

Creating a coin

  1. When we open, go to Create and pick the chain.
  2. Add a name, ticker, picture and, if you like, a description and links.
  3. Choose the pair - what the coin trades against.
  4. Choose the coin type: Normal, or Rewards on Robinhood Chain (a 1/2/3% reward tax shared with holders - see Rewards coins).
  5. Optionally add a dev buy, then confirm in your wallet.

Your ticker, name and picture are checked against coins launched in the week before, and older coins still trading. If none of them match, your coin gets the ✓ Original badge; a coin that does is labelled Copy.

Protect your ticker: when you launch you can lock your ticker for 24 hours, 3 days or 7 days (24 hours unless you change it). While it runs, any other coin launched with exactly that ticker, on either chain, isn't listed on 2hour.fun. Look-alikes with a letter changed still get the Copy label.

Lock your dev buy: you can put every coin in your launch wallet into a lock for 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days or a year, or burn them. On Robinhood Chain only a burn works for now: time locks there are coming soon. It's one tap on the coin page once your dev buy has landed. A lock can't be opened before its time - not by you and not by 2hour.fun - and a burn is for good. Once the site has read it on the chain, the coin shows a gold Dev locked or Dev burned badge (when it took at least half of what you held) with a link to check it. You can also lock or burn later, from the coin's About card.

Edit your coin's info: after launch you can change its description and its website, X and Telegram links from the About card on its page (or Edit info on your creator dashboard). The name, ticker and picture stay as launched, so your coin stays the Original.

The launch fee and creator fees

  • Launch fee: about $500, priced live in ETH or SOL. The Create page shows the exact amount before you confirm.
  • Creator fees: the 1% fee on every trade of your coin is shared between 2hour.fun and you. You get 80% of it until you've earned back your $500 launch fee, then 20% (2hour.fun keeps 80%). The chain pays your 20% with every trade; until then, 2hour.fun adds the rest from its own share, in the coin's pair token (the stock token, for a coin paired with one), and you claim it with your other creator fees.
  • Creator tax (optional): Normal coins on Robinhood Chain can add a creator tax of up to 5% that goes to the creator, under Advanced.

Your creator dashboard shows what your coins have earned. Payments are listed on Payouts.

Dev incentives

There are way too many coins launched and dropped the same day. Dev incentives pay devs for sticking around instead: each time your coin's volume on 2hour.fun passes a milestone, you earn a bonus on top of your creator fees - $2,000,000 in all by $1B. They're paid by 2hour.fun and are separate from Rewards coins: a reward coin's holders get its reward tax from every trade, and Dev incentives come on top of that, on any coin.

  • $1M traded on 2hour.fun: $2,000 paid, $2,000 in all by then
  • $5M traded on 2hour.fun: $8,000 paid, $10,000 in all by then
  • $10M traded on 2hour.fun: $10,000 paid, $20,000 in all by then
  • $50M traded on 2hour.fun: $80,000 paid, $100,000 in all by then
  • $100M traded on 2hour.fun: $100,000 paid, $200,000 in all by then
  • $500M traded on 2hour.fun: $800,000 paid, $1,000,000 in all by then
  • $1B traded on 2hour.fun: $1,000,000 paid, $2,000,000 in all by then

Each bonus is 0.2% of the volume traded since the milestone before, about $2,000 for every $1M. So $80,000 at $50M pays for the $40M traded from $10M to $50M, and $100,000 at $100M for the $50M from $50M to $100M. It's the same as your own 20% of the fee over that stretch, so each milestone doubles what you earned in it.

  • Only 2hour.fun's own pools count: the launch curve and the pool your coin graduates into. Trading on other exchanges, perps or anyone else's pools doesn't.
  • Share it with your holders: pick 0%, 50% or 100% when you launch, or later on your creator dashboard. Holders get that part of each bonus, split by how much and how long each wallet has held. Raising it locks it for 7 days (the dashboard counts it down); after that you can lower it again. At each milestone, the share that counts is the highest it was in the 7 days before, so lowering it only counts a week later.
  • Checks: trades by your own wallets and wallets bundled at launch don't count, and each milestone needs enough different traders ($1M: 100, $5M: 300, $10M: 500, $50M: 2,000, $100M: 5,000, $500M: 15,000, $1B: 25,000). You can sell up to half of the most you've held (moving coins to another wallet counts as selling); sell more and that milestone's bonus goes to your holders instead. Bonuses are paid in ETH or SOL at the price when the milestone is confirmed. Over $10,000 they're checked by the team and paid from our treasury; every payment shows on Payouts.

Badges: devs earn Builder (milestones passed), Skyscraper (the highest one coin reaches), Fair share (sharing 100% with holders) and Shared from launch (picking a share on Create). Holders earn Believer, Early believer (bought in the first hour) and Kept the faith (milestones in a row), and anyone can earn Tipping point (the trade that takes a coin past a milestone) and Town crier (sharing a milestone card). Two are secret.

Dev buys

A dev buy lets you buy some of your own coin in the same transaction as the launch, so nobody can buy in before you. On 2hour.fun a dev buy is capped at 50% of the supply. Whatever you hold shows publicly in the coin's Dev holds badge.

Reserving a launch

Once we're open, you can reserve a launch while the window is closed by paying half the launch fee up front (about $250). Your coin appears on the Upcoming page with a card and QR code you can share before it goes live.

  • The deposit is non-refundable.
  • You must finalise during the next launch window, or the deposit is lost.
  • At launch you pay only the remaining half (plus any dev buy).
  • The pair and coin type are locked in when you reserve.
Be careful
Launching costs real money and there's no guarantee anyone will trade your coin. Only launch with funds you can afford to lose.

After launch

Your coin trades on its bonding curve straight away and graduates to a locked pool when the curve fills. You can share it, post notes on it and watch it in your dashboard like any other coin.
