Buying & selling
How a trade works: quick buy, the trade panel, slippage, fees and confirmations.
2hour.fun opens soon. These guides explain how everything works once we're open.
Buying a coin swaps some of your ETH or SOL for that coin. Selling swaps it back. Every trade is a transaction your wallet signs and the blockchain records.
The trade panel
- Once coins are live, open one and choose Buy or Sell.
- Enter an amount, or tap a preset. When selling you can pick a share of what you hold.
- Check the summary - roughly what you'll get, and any tax - then confirm.
Quick buy
Switch on Quick buy on Explore in Settings and each coin card gets a buy button with a preset amount you choose. It uses the same wallet, fees and slippage as the trade panel - just with fewer taps.
Slippage
Prices can move in the moment between pressing Buy and your trade being processed, especially when lots of people are trading. Slippage is how far you allow the price to move. If it moves further than that, the trade is cancelled instead of going through at a worse price.
On 2hour.fun buys and sells each have their own slippage - 5% for buys and 10% for sells to begin with. Tap Slippage at the bottom of any trade panel (it shows the one for the tab you're on) or open Settings, then pick 1%, 3%, 5%, 10% or 20%, or type your own from 0.1% to 50% under Custom. Each is used for every trade on its side, quick ones too.
A lower setting protects your price but more trades may be cancelled when things are busy. A higher one lets more trades through but at a possibly worse price. It's a trade-off, not a right answer.
When a sell misses its price
If the price moves past your slippage, nothing is sold and you keep your coins. With Retry missed sells once on in Settings (it starts on) and Instant trades on, the sell goes again straight away, once, allowing more: 10% if it allowed less than 10%, 20% if it allowed less than 20%. Its pop-up says so while it does.
If that misses too - or the retry is off - the pop-up offers Try again and, while a step is left, a button to sell at it (Sell at 20%, say). The wider slippage is for that one sell: your settings stay as they are.
When a buy misses its price
If the price moves past your slippage, nothing is bought. With Retry missed buys once on in Settings (it starts on) and Instant trades on, the buy goes again straight away, once - the same amount, priced afresh - at the next slippage step up: 1% goes again at 3%, 3% at 5%, 5% at 10% and 10% at 20%. Never above 20%, and not at all if it already allowed 20% or more. Its pop-up says so while it does.
It only goes again when nothing was bought - never for a buy the network didn't confirm in time. If the retry misses too - or it's off - the pop-up offers Try again. The wider slippage is for that one buy: your settings stay as they are.
Fees
- Trade fee: 1% of every trade, shared between 2hour.fun and the coin's creator: the creator gets 80% of it until they've earned back their launch fee, then 20% (how it's split). On Solana the Raydium pool adds its own 0.25%.
- Coin tax (some coins): a creator tax of up to 5% that goes to the creator, or a reward tax of 1, 2 or 3% that is shared with holders. A coin's page shows its tax as a badge.
- Network fee: a small amount of ETH or SOL paid to the blockchain for each transaction. On Solana it includes a 0.000005 SOL tip that sends your trade by a fast route. With Fastest Solana trades on (Quick settings or Settings), it goes by every fast route, with a 0.001 SOL tip. Tips go to the network, not to 2hour.fun.
Confirmations
Your trade shows on the chart as soon as you send it, and a pop-up tells you when it's confirmed. If a trade fails - for example because the price moved past your slippage - you'll see why. A failed transaction can still use a small network fee.
Coins paired with a stock token or stablecoin
Some coins trade against a stock token or a stablecoin instead of ETH or SOL. You can still pay with ETH or SOL - the site swaps it for you in the same trade. See Paired coins.
Key points
- Buy and sell from a coin's page, or with quick buy on Explore.
- Slippage is how far the price may move before a trade is cancelled - set for buys and sells separately (1%, 3%, 5%, 10% or 20%, or your own).
- Every trade pays a 1% fee, plus any coin tax and a small network fee.
- A pop-up confirms each trade; a failed one tells you why. A sell that misses its price can go again once at 10% or 20%; a buy, once at the next step up (20% at most).
